Today in Astana a solemn event was held dedicated to 100 days before the 5th World Nomad Games. The event brought together numerous guests, including athletes, coaches, volunteers, and city residents.

The purpose of the event is to popularize national sports and familiarize city residents with the upcoming World Nomad Games.

The opening ceremony was attended by the head of the Department of National Sports of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan Elaman Makhambetov, Deputy Chairman of the Association of National Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan Tastanbek Yessentayev, Deputy Head of the Directorate for the Preparation and Conduct of the 5th World Nomad Games Ablai Kondybaev, Deputy Head of the Department of Physical Culture and sports of Astana Islambek Baimanov and the founder of the Tolagai mas-wrestling competition Timur Spatayev.

Deputy Chairman of the Association of National Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan Tastanbek Yessentayev emphasized the importance of the Games for Kazakhstan and the international community. In his speech, he noted: “On the initiative of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev, the 5th World Nomad Games will be held in Astana on September 8-13, 2024. We believe that these Games will become a powerful incentive for the development of national sports and the strengthening of cultural ties between countries. It is a great honor and responsibility for us to host unique international competitions in ethnic sports included in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This event highlights the importance of preserving and promoting our cultural heritage at the global level.”

Deputy Head of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the city of Astana Islambek Baimanov gave a speech in which he spoke about the progress of preparation of sports facilities.

The event program included dance performances by the song and dance ensemble “Birlik”, an open training session in Kazakh kuresi with the participation of famous athletes, master classes in togyzkumalak and traditional archery, as well as games of arcan tartu and asyk atu. In addition, a quiz was held on the theme of the World Nomad Games with a drawing for tickets to the Games.

The event received positive feedback from guests and participants. All of them expressed hope for the further development and popularization of national sports.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Akimat of Astana, the Association of National Sports, the Center for National and Equestrian Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Directorate for the preparation and holding of the 5th World Nomad Games.
